Are You a Hmmmmmmmmer tooo :p ?

I wonder from which language does the word "hmmm" come from!Is there a dictionary meaning of this word?I suppose no,since it is such a multi-purpose word.I've noticed something that no matter which country you belong to and what language you speak,everyone seems to understand it.Mind you,it is very addictive!Every one out of four people i meet on Orkut is addicted to it.And why not!It can be the answer to anything and everything!When you are short of words you can use "hmm".When you have a lot to say but "cannot" then also "hmm" comes to your rescue!I always relate hmm with mystery!It can mean soooo much.It fills up gaps and breaks silences.When somone is deeply engrossed in narrating to you the tale of his life,and you want to assure him that you're listening and that you understand...it's always best to use hmmmm.One angry look and a stressful hmmm is enough to shake a child and stop him from picking up too many biscuits from the plate at a relative's place :D.One naughty smile and a sweeeeeeeeet hmmm can make your partner giggle with joy ;).One "innocent-puppy-dog" look in the eyes and a pleaaaaaaading hmmmmm can make your father buy you an expensive watch which you were denied earlier :D ;)
Seeeee,"hmmm" is such a life-saving equipment !It just depends on how you use it.
