"40% Discount on all dress-materials just for today...only for women.".....I read an ad in the newspaper early this morning when i was sipping my morning tea.Then came an SMS from a male friend,"Microsoft Recruitment Drive in Indore today,exclusively for girls."Incidentally i also happened to visit the library today and they were distributing roses to all the females present there. March 8-International Women's Day.One day for women...only one day for half the population of the world !!! After years of claiming rights,justice,equality..what do we get?1 day out of 365 days...when our presence is celebrated????Is this what we are trying to achieve?NO!!!We want to be treated like normal human beings.We don't want this division of humanity on the basis of XX and XY.We do not demand special treatment when we accomplish a task(because certain people think that it was difficult for a female to do it.??!!??) and similarly we don't want to hear sarcastic comments from male chauvinists if we happen to crash a car accidentally("Ahh!Ofcourse it had to crash...look who's driving" kinda comments).Cmon..we all are humans...and to err is human.Nobody is perfect..then why are we expected to be equally good in everything that we do,whether it be cooking good food or passing a difficult examination with flying colors...both at the same time !!!
We may be physically weak but we are emotionally stronger.Our feet may be small but we are capable of taking big steps.Our eyes may moist easily but that doesn't blurr our vision.We can sense one's thoughts through his touch and we can read eyes without a doubt.We forgive and we forget.We sacrifice and we compromise.We serve the same God,we breathe in the same air,we drink the same water,we eat the same food....then why live a different life???Let's not divide ourselves,let's celebrate humanity,let's respect each other,let each day of the year be celebrated as "Men And Women's Day."

well its just that women are given more privilege by our society than men, sometimes i really wonder why men's day is not celebrated same way as woman's day ...but then men and women's day sounds better ......... ................ ................... ........... and regarding men and women rights....nowadays there are lots of opportunities for women...there are reservation for women's in MNC and government ....but thats not the case with men ....i hopefully see for the day where there won't be any bias as in gender ...
Dear u r talking about only 1% of the actual female population.Dont tell me you actually believe that the time has come when women rule over men EVERYWHERE.....and like u said..."women are given more privilege by our society than men"(Though i dont mind if that happens..after all men have ruled enough..let us give us a chance too;))...
No wonder there is no men's day...it is because..except for the one Women's day...all other days are indeed Men's days :p
Indeed there are reservations and rights on paper...but women arent even allowed(I m talking about the 99% of the population)to reach that level to claim their rights.And indeed even in our society...women are treated as a liability.....and not something a parent can believe in...Perhaps u dont have a sister? :)

What I dont understand is that they talk of equality but they want reservation in Parliment, in railway coaches and excemptions in tax policies. That does not justify the equality women are talking about. Infact there is are committees to take up women issues but as much as I know there are nothing for men.
You are complaining about having only one day for half the worlds population.. did you realise that theres also only one day on 14th Feb dedicated to the entire worlds population with the fact that both women and men fall in love!!
Men and women are never equal but they are complimentary. What women can do can never be done by men as the same way what men can do can never be done by a women. Each of them are physically designed in such a way to accomplish certain things that only they can do. That makes them compatable. There can be only one sword in a scabbard!!

U r talking of "reservation in Parliment, in railway coaches and excemptions in tax policies".......do u know how many percent of women actually even get the power to "ask" these rights??i repeat that im not talking about the metro woman.....but of the female who lives in narrow lanes and in mud houses.....who cannot go out after 7pm...fearing the roadside romeoes..and even females like us.....who cant go to petrol pumps or to a mechanic widout coming back feeling humiliated by the eve-teasing and the eyes which look at you like X-Ray machines !!

Also about 14th feb....u r mistaken again.....it doesnt celebrate "the fact that both women and men fall in love".....but the day simply celbrates LOVE....may it be of any type....infact....it doesnt make sense to me...because one day isnt sufficient to celebrate Love !!!
Also we are just asking for justice......the right to be treated as human beings who have feelings and ambitions !

Let me make it clear that I'm in no way irritated. I do agree women are an oppressed community in rural areas. When a house income is very less and supporting a girl child becomes a burden thinking of various expenses that the family might have to go through as she grows. I think its more because that men are self sustainable after a certain age perhaps most women are not the same. If men are to be blamed for that I would agree partially.
Do you know anything about Adam teasing??!! Perhaps you may have done it and may not realise it. Its something men/boys experience when they cross a women group (group = anything more than just one). The giggling, commenting and sometimes passing remarks are a regular thing. You ask a female she tells you "This is innocent fun". Wonder why they can't take it that way when men does the same. The extent of eve teasing ofcourse varies. Most physical harassment happens to women who dress or behave inappropriately in public so its not just men to blamed for this crime. In a bakery you have a cake thats inside a glass box and a cake which is left outside open and within your reach. Natural instinct lets you to pick the one thats outside. If you are tempted whos to be blamed.. the shop keeper or you? A right mind would agree its both!!
Feb 14th was started for people who were in love but now people start to give it new definition. Whatever it is I too feel you dont need that one day to express love. All the same with all the DAYS. You dont need women's day to talk about women's problem. Contradictory to your thoughts most of us (men) think women are an invaluable asset!!

Eve teasing is common not just in metros but in villages as well.....im sure u r aware that they dont dress up in mini skirts...and ofcourse u cant even think about ur "Adam teasing" in atleast 80% of India !!

but i think women are given much privilege over men in most of the day to day affairs..ladies special busses...wagons in trains..... etc...if women stop using these coaches they'll not be isolated & most probably,the name-"weaker sex" may wane off...if someone teases u y dont u gather your friend&kick him off??

Aha...its been longtime...now lets see....hmmm...ok. Saniya...Even when demographic characteristics do not show much or any anti-female bias, there are other ways in which women can have less than a square deal.Its true that most of this unequality is in rural and its coz they are not even aware what is gender equality, the problem is they are illiterates ..and its that our indian society is so much full of hypocrites....and it has been great influence from hindu religion teachings ( like sati system , bla bla ) ...and our indian monkeys always like to stab on others ...No wonder our citizens share it.. Girl no matter how much you talk , thier mediocre mind can't imbibe it. And if someone wears a miniskirt in conservative society , she wud be damn stupid. i have stillgot alot to say ....will post some other time :( ...need to go college i am late :-p

The issue of gender inequality is one which has been publicly reverberating through society for decades..There are, often enough, basic inequalities in gender relations within the family or the household, which can take many different forms. Things that need to be done is 1) educate people in rural areas , 2)Active participaton of society in the same issue and not the least ..change people's attitude ...and how many people do u see out there fighting for rights ? how many people are supporting them ?
